My name is Madolyn and I am the designer and creative behind MATTA PERLA GOWNS.

Translated from Italian (an influential part of my family heritage), the phrase means Mad Pearl. My first name is often shortened to Mads by loved ones and my middle name is Pearl (a family name & my birthstone coincidentally!)

The phrase encompasses intensity and softness with the juxtaposition of the word mad with pearls which are often associated with grace and gentleness.

I love all that is delicate and soft and beautiful, AND what is bold and colorful and quirky. And I don’t believe we have to choose between the two, but rather can see beauty in the balance.

Growing up as a tall girl with 5 sisters I have experienced and witnessed many frustrations shopping for formal dresses for school dances, weddings, etc. Dresses are often ill fitting, boring, or expensive.

I constantly wished we had more options that were unique, size inclusive, and beautiful. In my experience as a corporate fashion designer I also saw the wastefulness of the clothing industry and hoped there was a better solution.

I began creating custom designs in 2019 and have since grown to include small batches of sourced gowns, including vintage and size inclusive options. These gowns are available to rent to make it more affordable and to be more sustainable. MATTA PERLA GOWNS has been in my heart for over a decade and I’m so excited to finally share it with the world!
